A new survey of 5,000 Americans reveals the nation’s ideal grilled cheese sandwich features white bread cut into triangles with crust intact. Cheddar emerged as the top cheese choice, with 44% preferring it combined with American cheese at 40%. White bread dominated at 43% preference, followed by sourdough at 24%. Most respondents, 71%, favor butter for coating the bread’s exterior. The Talker Research poll found 62% of Americans consider themselves “grilled cheese enthusiasts.” Georgia leads as the grilled cheese capital, with 76% identifying as enthusiasts.
