Children relocate an average of almost 400 miles from home after moving out, creating emotional challenges for parents beyond physical distance. A new survey of 1,000 parents found that while 55% expect daily texts from their children, only 19% actually receive multiple daily messages and 17% get at least one daily contact. Parents initiate communication 69% of the time, primarily through texting (67%). Moms hear from children twice as often as dads (22% versus 10% multiple times daily). While 30% of parents expected weekly visits, only 18% receive them, with some waiting seven months between in-person meetings. Photos of everyday moments help 85% of parents feel emotionally connected despite the distance. (Story URL)
