According to a new study, American renters have lived in their current homes for an average of 4 years, with 28% residing in the same rental for 7 years or more. Baby Boomers (41%) and Gen X (28%) have remained the longest. 62% of respondents say they’re unlikely to move this year, though 22% report “commitment issues” with their home. Many renters (32%) browse listings weekly, with 41% calling it the “new doomscrolling.” Yet renters also personalize their units, with 38% making unauthorized modifications.
