Phil Collins and Paul McCartney have cleared the air after years of tension stemming from an awkward encounter more than two decades ago.
Collins recently explained that the two musicians spoke directly and settled their differences. The disagreement dated back to 2002, when Collins approached McCartney during celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee. He had brought along a first-edition Beatles book for McCartney to sign, but a comment made during the exchange left Collins feeling uncomfortable and dismissed.
The moment stayed with Collins, who later discussed it publicly and described the encounter as a source of frustration.
Their relationship changed when Collins began contacting fellow musicians while gathering memorabilia for a charity auction. McCartney later called him, giving both artists the opportunity to discuss what had happened.
Collins said he apologized, and the two ultimately moved past the old misunderstanding. The charity auction will include memorabilia connected to Collins’ career, with proceeds supporting the King’s Trust.
