Kid Cudi has opened up about his decision to reconnect with Kanye West after years of public tension between the longtime collaborators. In a social media response following their recent Chicago performance, Cudi described West as family and pointed to nearly two decades of friendship and music together.
The comments followed criticism surrounding Cudi’s appearance during West’s Soldier Field concert. Cudi said he understood why some people remain frustrated with West, but explained that his own relationship with the rapper is personal. He added that he had previously held West accountable and believed an apology he received was sincere.
The reunion brought the two artists back onstage for performances of Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1, Ghost Town and Pursuit of Happiness.
Their relationship had deteriorated publicly in 2022, when Cudi was removed from Donda 2 amid disagreements involving his friendship with Pete Davidson.
West has faced widespread criticism in recent years over antisemitic statements and other controversial behavior. Earlier in 2026, he issued a public apology addressing some of his past actions.
