Gang of Youths are opening a new chapter with Things Take Time, their first new music in several years. In introducing the single, the band described a shift toward a lighter and more restrained sound, moving away from some of the sweeping intensity that shaped their earlier releases.
As the group begins this next phase, frontman David Le’aupepe has also spoken about changing the way he writes. The newer material puts more emphasis on groove, melody and simplicity, while relying less heavily on autobiography than some of the band’s past work.
The release follows the band’s 2022 album Angel in Realtime. and a period away from regular touring and new original music. Gang of Youths are now working toward their fourth studio album, with the latest song offering an early look at where that project may be heading.
The return also marks a broader reset for the group, with new music and live performances giving fans their first clear sense of this evolving creative direction.
