Israeli and U.S. forces carried out a new wave of attacks on Iran on Monday, officials said, in one of the most serious escalations since the conflict widened across the region. Iranian state media reported that more than 25 people were killed, including Maj. Gen. Majid Khademi, who led intelligence for Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.
Iran responded with missile fire toward Israel and several Gulf Arab countries, according to authorities in the region, raising fresh concern that the fighting could spread even further. Damage and casualties were reported in multiple areas, including Tehran and Haifa, as air defenses were activated and emergency crews responded to new strikes.
The latest attacks also added pressure around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes. A disruption there can quickly affect global energy markets and international trade.
At the same time, mediators circulated a new 45-day ceasefire proposal to Tehran and Washington. No agreement had been announced, and the region remained on edge as military action and diplomatic efforts unfolded at the same time.
